Designed in collaboration with all the cantons of French-speaking Switzerland, the timetable that comes into effect on 15 December 2024 is the most significant timetable change in French-speaking Switzerland for 20 years. Its main goal is to guarantee greater punctuality and stability of connections for passengers. This involves numerous timetable changes on SBB lines, but also, by domino effect, on lines operated by other public transport companies throughout French-speaking Switzerland.

Why is a new timetable necessary?

The timetable in effect until 14 December 2024 no longer reflects the reality. Dating from the 2000s, it has not been adapted to keep pace with the numerous changes to the network (increasing numbers of passengers and trains in circulation, as well as infrastructure modernisation requirements). The comprehensive overhaul of the timetable from 15 December 2024 will breathe new life into a railway system on the verge of suffocation, improving punctuality and guaranteeing stable connections for customers. This more robust timetable will also make it easier to absorb the various infrastructure works that are set to increase over the next few years. The SBB network must not only be maintained, but also developed on a continual basis. The installations are ageing and need to be replaced. Around CHF 6 billion will be invested in French-speaking Switzerland between now and 2030. This timetable is capable of being upgraded. It will be improved whenever opportunities arise.
